If you've got chewing gum stuck in your vehicle's carpeted floor mats, you're probably willing to try anything to get it out. You may have seen the claim floating around the internet that you can simply freeze the gum out, like a wart.

The "car hack" says to place a Ziploc bag full of ice cubes on the gum for about three minutes. Once it's frozen solid, you can peel it right out of the carpet.

It's possible this tip works if the gum isn't already too far embedded in the rug, but when Autoblog tested it out, it straight-up didn't work. The sticky gum froze solid and lost its stickiness, but it wouldn't pull out of the carpet fibers where it was stuck.

Fortunately, Autoblog already covered another method that did work—WD-40.

Using WD-40, spray the carpet around the edges of the gum, slowly peeling the gum up as you spray more lubricant under it. This should work much more reliably than freezing.
